No child can escape a Camilla Binks swaddle. I challenge one and all. Bring me your children and I will swaddle them like they've never been swaddled before. New moms and dads always look so frightened when I swaddle their baby. They think I'm going to break some bones or cause some kind of permanent damage. It's okay, calm down. I promise, I will not hurt your baby. They love my swaddles. If they could talk they would call out for me in their little baby voices, "Camilla, come swaddle me! I'm telling ya...

This is Jace, Jacipoo, Jacie, J, Jayjay, Shnookie, Poopers, Little booger, my newest nephew, at our first meeting in the hospital. This is him straight outta the womb all new and fresh. I wanted him swaddled for a pic so I stole a big ole sheet off the rollaway bed and viola! Swaddle magic. He loved it.

Distractions.

My Dear Blog - I've been letting things like naps, cute kids, nice weather and LOST distract me and keep me away from you this past week. Bad Camilla, bad. But I have some things in store for you so don't be mad.

In the midst of all of my distractions I ran outside and snapped a little pic of the blossoms on the tree in my front yard today. While I snapped it started raining. Whooaah, I just heard thunder. El Nino boys and girls. El Nino.

I love spring! It's my 2nd, nope 3rd favorite season. What about you?

Wait...just realized all of my windows are open and it's now pouring. My poor blinds. Gotta go.

Loooooovvvveeeeddd this day. I had so much fun!

Amy has shoulder legnth hair but MANDI did such AN AMAZING job on her hair and makeup that you would never guess. She is pure genius! And she saved me so much time editing. The makeup was flawless so there was nothing to edit. For that Mandi I thank you SO MUCH.

Poor Kelli and Josh. I feel for them right now. They are engaged and currently living in different states. You know how sometimes you just want to be held by your man? It must be hard feeling that way and having your man be in a different state! Their wedding is just a few months away though and then they can live happily ever after in the same house. I'm so excited for them!

When they are in the same state they like to hook up and just chill together, watch movies, eat popcorn, goof off.

I figured since we were in Vegas and all that we had to stop by the "Welcome to FABULOUS Las Vegas Nevada" sign. I didn't expect to have to stand in line to take a picture though. Funny.

So, due to the ridiculous line we couldn't really do an entire session there (we would've had angry tourists throwing their fanny packs and yard long margaritas at us). But we did snap off a shot or two there before moving on.

February 27th. When Derek and Amber booked their wedding with me for this day I imagined my snow boots, ice cold winds, grey clouds, red noses and snot. Not mine of course, I don't make snot, but everyone else involved. But when February 27th rolled around there was not one snow flake or booger to be found anywhere. Instead sunshine and loveliness abounded.

I arrived extremely early as usual and enjoyed my sunshine as I took some detail shots of the Salt Lake Temple.

Doesn't seeing blue skies make you happy?

Thumbs Up. 3/7/10 - 3/13/10.

I had a lovely consultation today and couldn't stop smiling the whole way home. Not just because of the consultation, but because it was WARM and SUNNY outside. I was so toasty in my car. It was a beautiful feeling. I also realized today that daylight savings is on March 14th this year which is ONLY 6 DAYS AWAY meaning the sun will not set until 7:30 pm! Do you have any idea how much this means to me?! Not to mention how much easier it will be to get my butt to 7pm zumba if the sun is still out?!?! (But let's be honest. I have had some pretty decent zumba attendace this winter despite the snow and nastiness outside so pat me on the back next time you see me.) Anyway, I've made it! This winter hater has made it through the winter!

Speaking of making it through the winter, so did this cute little leaf I noticed while at the Salt Lake Temple last week. I love how it has clung to the tree in the face of all the snowy days and freezing nights. Nicely done little leaf. You can fall off now. I'm ready to see green leaves. Thanks.

Needless to say, the THUMBS UP this week is for daylight savings. Don't forget to set your clocks forward one hour this Saturday night!

Designer and Modest had a Baby

I was married 5 years ago. And back then I would say that we LDS brides were, well, really limited in our choices for wedding gowns. If you wanted a modest gown you really only had one bridal store to hit up and that's it! A lot of my friends actually ended up making their own wedding dresses because that was the only way that they were going to get a gown that was modest and that they were happy with. The dresses we had were okay, don't get me wrong, but they weren't the gowns that you had grown up imagining yourself in. You know, the ones you see in magazines. Atleast they weren't for me.

Well, lucky lucky brides today have so many options now that DESIGNER and MODEST hooked up and had a beautiful little baby girl named ALTA MODA.

Let me tell you a little bit about ALTA MODA. They carry designer gowns; amazing gowns that take your breath away and yes, most of them are sleeveless, BUT Alta Moda can get them for you so that they are temple ready. It's spectacular! I mean, look at these before and after images:

Tip #3. Long Veils.

I am a HUGE fan of a floor length veil, not huge actually, ENORMOUS fan! Chapel, Cathedral, Grand Cathedral, you name it.
For some reason, I haven't had many brides sport the long veils. It's so sad! I just don't understand it ladies. I am writing today to show you what an amazing accessory these gorgeous veils can be and how amazingly awesome they can make your wedding and bridal images. I think if you see them the way I see them you will fall in love.

I apologize for all of you ladies that are already married like me and chose to go with a different length veil because I'm sure you now all have veil envy like I do. BUT, I still have my wedding gown and am going to schedule a TTD session for my 10 year anniversary and you better believe I will switch out my old veil for a long one. It'll be my second chance! I can't wait!

And if you're not yet wed, just keep in mind what an important role a veil plays in your wedding photos. No matter what the length, I dare you to be bold with it and make a statement. Whether its a cathedral veil like these, or a fun birdcage or short funky veil. Your wedding images will thank you!

Thumbs Up Thumbs Down. 1/24/10 - 1/30/10

I had been sitting in Primary for about 15 minutes and was beginning to wonder why sweet little 4 year old Max had been staring at my feet for basically the entire 15 minutes with such a wierd look on his face. I was starting to worry. Finally, he looked up and said "Sister Binks, how come there's a hole in your shoes? I can see your toes?"

Me: "They are supposed to be that way. They are called peep toe shoes.

Max: "That's wierd."

I love you little Max.

This brings me to my THUMBS UP!

ALDO SHOES and the LEWITT shoe that arrived on my doorstep this week.

Make a shoe black, sparkly, super high heeled and top it with a bow and you have perfection for your feet. I smiled like a little kid on Christmas morning when I opened the shoe box and saw these puppies staring back at me. The make my feet look so much cuter than they really are. Thank you Madam Lewitts!

And for my Thumbs Down?

Commercials that are significantly louder than the programs they are supporting.

I have to admit that I haven't really seen an entire commercial break for a long time now. I tivo everything and watch it back later so I just skip the commercials (Hey, let's give a thumbs up to that while we're at it! Love skipping commercials!). But I did actually have the TV on during a commercial break this week and it reminded me that the commercials always seem to be a million notches louder than the actual program. Is that really necessary? Do I sound like an old lady? I do, don't I?

I Heart Lunch

Earlier this week Sweetness and I were enjoying a delicious jar of baby food along with chunks of banana. We're so big!
We have a decent sized window in our kitchen that lets the most beautiful light through and I thought the she looked so cute all messy with the beautiful window light on her face. Doesn't she? Anyway, I couldn't resist busting out the camera for just a minute.
I treasure our lunches together so much. I know that soon enough she'll be big and I will miss these quiet little moments together. So I'm enjoying them now as much as I can.

Thanks for being mine. You, your sister, and your daddy are my everything. I heart you to heaven and back!! Love, mama.

Two New Albums

I've been meaning to post some shots of these albums I got back in like October but things have been too craaaazy! This week has been a bit calmer than most though so I'm taking advantage.

So, this first album I LOVE! Photos cannot do the cover on this puppy one bit of justice. It needs to be seen first hand. It has a thick acrylic cover with a metallic print. OMGOSH!! It's so shimmery. In an amazing way! 12x18 inches means 12x36 inch spreads. Holy Cow! That's a massive album!

This one has a textured plexiglass cover and is a 14x14 (so 14x28 inch spreads. Sweet!).

Sandy, Utah - January 10th 2010

Kiddie Kandids, a Sandy, Utah based chain of photography studios, has ceased operations, effective immediately. This shutdown occurred as the result of an abrupt and unforeseen loss of funding from its banks. Kiddie Kandids' operations have been particularily challenged by the economic climate over the past 18 monhts and its lenders have informed the company that they will no longer provide funding for Kiddie Kandids' immediate cash needs. Without continued funding, Kiddie Kandids was unable to meet its imminent financial obligations. We have exhausted all possible avenues for funding and have come to the end of the road. This is truly unfortunate in light of the great team of employees and the great customers that made Kiddie Kandids a leading national children's photography studio. It is our hope that if the assets are purchased out of bankruptcy that the buyer will consider hiring back many of our employess. In light of the unforeseen termination of funding by its lenders, Kiddie Kandids intends to file a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code in the coming days.

Prior to its closure, Kiddie Kandids was one of the nation's premier children's portrait studios, specializing in newborn, infant, toddler, and pre-school portrait photography. Founded in 1974, Kiddie Kandids grew from a single camera in a mall kiosk to a nationwide network of 184 hi-tech portrait studios. The majority of Kiddie Kandids' studios are located within Babies 'R' Us retail stores across the country.

Come back in time with me to earlier this week. I am at my endocrinologists office. I have one kid strapped to me in a baby bjorn. I'm holding the leash that's hooked to the other child. I have on a backpack full of stuff to show to the doctor and am also juggling a massive diaper bag. Dropping stuff left and right as I work my way up 2 flights of stairs. What my dear toddler? You'd rather be carried. Oh, okay. So now carrying my toddler as well as my 9 month old and all of our gear up the stairs. Why am I putting myself through this and paying a bagillion dollars to come see this doctor? Because the medicine she has me on is making me lose my hair and gain weight. Boo! All I need is for her to switch my prescription to the one that does not have weight gain and hair loss as side effects. I know what I want. I don't want more medicine, I just want the one that is natural and doesn't have side effects. Simple, right? Nope.

Endo: Let's just try this medicine again but this time we'll group it with a second medicine.

Me: How about no. I told you that it made made my hair fall out like crazy and I gained 11 pounds in 2 weeks!

Endo: There's no way that it was the medicine that made that happen. It doesn't do that.

Me: But it says so in the literature for that medication. Hair loss is written right there.

Endo: Well it won't this time.

So, I've been taking this medicine for a week now and do I feel better? No. Have I gained weight? Yes. Am I losing hair like crazy? Better believe it.

So this brings me to my first thumbs down

1- Doctors that won't listen.

2- Doctors that don't believe you.

Moving on...

1-Dole Frozen Pineapple Chunks (I know this is mango. I couldn't find the picture for the pineapple.)

By the time you bring them home from the store they'll be just thawed enough to pop right into your mouth. Ah man. They are soooo good! Smoothie them up, put them on yogurt, or just pop them right in your mouth like candy. You will love them! Give them a shot and tell me how you like to eat them!

2- Babies falling asleep in your arms. Priceless.

3- My hubbie. I've been extra tired lately due to my little medical issue and my sweetheart has been holding down the fort a lot lately while I take a nap. He's the best. (Sigh) I love him!

HOLY SNOW!

Natalie and Ben. Such troopers.

Natalie: "We want something outdoorsy. Like in the mountains."
Camila: "Awesome. But keep in mind that in the winter there's going to be snow everywhere."
Natalie: "It's okay. I know there's going to be snow but we really want the outdoorsy feel. Ben hunts and we love hiking and stuff together so we really want that mountain look. And where I come from they don't have mountains."
Camila: "Okay then! I'll find an awesome spot for you guys."

Natalie and Ben. They trusted me to find their perfect spot. Did I? I think so. But when I said snow, I don't think they imagined how much. I took that trust they gave me and marched them right out into snow WAIST HIGH for this first shot. Ya. Cold. And me, I was more than waist high for this first shot. Not gonna lie, the moment that I sank into the snow past my ribs I started to panic a little inside. Maybe more than a little. A whole lotta internal panic going on. Thought I was going to be stuck. But someone must have been watching over me because I made it out somehow. No helicopters had to fly in or anything like I thought they would. Thank goodness!

But they brought outfit changes so it was all good :-)

Sigh. I love love.

And they found ways to warm each other up.

Have you ever walked into a reception hall that was lit somewhat like this?

That really blows. Beyond boring. Right? Right.

Now look at the same reception hall with some UH FREAKING MAZING lighting:

I would say that's quite a difference. SO...today's tip ladies and gentleman is all about LIGHTING for your reception. Yay!

Not only will your guests walk in and be smacked with that HOLY COW feeling but they will leave REMEMBERING your reception. AND, your reception photos will be SO much more beautiful and interesting than they would be without the awesome lighting. Just something to think about. ;)

Less of a Fat Christmas

We had so much good food around this Christmas but would you me believe if I told you that I did not eat all of that missing chicken enchilada casserole myself? It's true. I didn't. I had a normal, not your typical overstuff yourself at Christmas portion thank you very much. But the little bit I did have was oh so good!

We had a great Christmas surrounded by lots of loved ones.

This awesome family lives in SC and had had their family session scheduled with me for many months. After talking with them over the phone and via email I was so happy to finally be able to meet them. They were so fun and their little girls so adorable. Their baby girl is the same age mine and as just as sweet. She made me miss my baby for the few hours I was away. I drove home as quickly as I could to see her afterwards. Anyway, it was so much fun! Can't wait to see them again this summer!

I always have to take the mom aside for a quick shot of just her. It seems that they are always the one behind the camera taking pictures of their kids. I think every girl should have a pretty picture of just her taken ATLEAST every year minimum.

I had to post a close up as well as the zoomed out version shot of this because this little face is just so stinkin cute! I really Really REALLY wish I could squeeze that baby right now.

Has anyone every stayed at Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City-A Kimpton Hotel? It's hands down the funkiest hotel in SLC. I mean, where else are you going to find a hotel with animal print ottomans in the lobby? Awesome!

Congrats to the couple who has never had an uncomfortable moment together, even from the get go. My Dear Lizzie Boutique

Remember this session I posted a couple of weeks ago?

Well, this fun skirt and INCREDIBLE hat are from the Dear Lizzie Boutique and Bistro in Highland. I went in there for the first time about a month ago and as soon as I walked through the doors my jaw hit the floor and it stayed there for about half an hour until I could finally bring myself to go. It was hard.

I think my favorite thing though is all of their girly chandeliers. I wish I would have known about them when I decorated my girls rooms earlier this year.

Flush Mount Album cover materials.

These are different than the materials in the last post. Those are for family albums, sign in books, etc. These are for the Flush Mount albums that come with the Popular and Ultimate wedding packages or for parent wedding albums.

Aren't those awesome! You can mix and match those materials or just go with one. Whatever floats your boat.

Here are some examples of the upgraded covers:

This is a metallic cover. You can go straight up metal or with an image on metal with a protective coating. Both awesome.

This is similar to the metallic cover but the highlights are blown out to reveal the metal underneath.

This one is all it's own. Unique and amazing!

Simple and stunning canvas wrap cover. Gloss or metallic finish.

Glass Covers. You can go with a muted plexiglass like this one below or a smooth, dark, bronzy glass that just allows a hint of the image underneath to peek through. Love this!

This specific album is a 20x8. What a unique size. It's great!

You may remember this family from their session last winter. They came out again from Alaska to visit some family and called me up for another session. That's something I love about my job. That I get to meet new people and watch their families grow through the years as they come back to see me. It's awesome! So, back to them, they braved a long plane trip from Alaska with their little cutie. And guess what the name is of the city that they live in? North Pole. No joke. Man, just typing those words makes me want to grab a blanket and get some hot chocolate.

Brittney and Eric are da bomb! They came prepared and ready to have fun, and I think they did. I know I did. Loved it!

And lastly the tunnel. They had seen this in one of my fave sessions from a few months back and decided that they wanted to brave the beast. It was hard to tell if the cars zooming by were honking at us or honking because it's tradition to honk under the tunnel, but either way, the honking pumps up the adrenaline you get from running out into 65 MPH traffic. Love it!

Brian is my brother-in-law and Jamie is my brand new sister-in-law so for this wedding I had the opportunity to be photographer and a bridesmaid. Shooting in heels, not awesome. But being able to watch Brian and Jamie and their cute boys interact, super awesome.

This was a special part of the ceremony where Brian and Jamie each read something special to the boys and gave them a rose. I try not to cry at weddings but I definately shed a few tears during this part. Who am I kidding? I ALWAYS cry at weddings.

One good thing about being the photographer in a family wedding is that you don't have to be in all of the family and wedding party pictures. Love that!

Hmmm..how do I start this post? This is really difficult because there is so much I could say. I could write for an hour about how much I LOVED Kyle and Kenz, I LOVED shooting somewhere new, I LOVED that Mike was with me, I LOVED the sunset, I LOVED that the water was warm, and MAN, I just LOVED this beach! We never actually made it to the location we originally had planned on, but I'm kind of glad. I think this place was perfect!

Right after the moon peeked out and we took this last shot is when we realized that our driver (Makenzie's wonderful and super cute mom) had accidentally left the lights on and the car battery was dead. We were stuck out in the middle of nowhere (seriously nowhere) for a couple of hours while her sweet guy drove over to give us a jump so we could drive back. It was pretty funny!

Like I said, if I was going to be stuck in a car with anyone, I'm super glad that it was with the two of you ladies! Girl talk with you made those hours fly by. Thanks guys!

I know I took a similar shot recently at this same spot, but they had these awesome sunglasses that were screaming at me to just snap it, so I did. I'm glad.

We were walking around a scary part of town and passed by this shopping cart. I'm proud of Jamie for getting in because everything there was so nasty. It was even her idea. I hope you don't get hepatitis!

Today is 9 de Julio (Argentina's Independence Day!) So I thought it would be appropriate to blog about some of my favorite things about my motherland.

Hoy es el Día de la Independencia en Argentina. Así que me pareciónuna buena idea poner algo de Argentina en mi blog y algunas de las cosas favoritas de mi tierra querida.

(Warning: If you've never been to Argentina this post may be extremely boring to you!)

9- Mate. The Taragui Brand. (I drink it unsweetened, that's the hardcore way ;-). And that everyone there has mate breath. And the fact that even when it's a bagillion degrees outside and everyone is sweating you'll still find them out there with their thermos full of boiling hot water sipping away on their mate. (PS, I buy this mate in Orem at the Super Hispano on Center Street. They have like every kind!) And I love that when people come to my house that have never heard of mate they think that we're druggie hippies or something.

3- The buses and that they always drive off when there are people still hanging off of the bus. People there drive crazy! I fear for my life.

I may have gotten a hideous farmer's tan while shooting at the temple for Tim and Lucia, but it was so worth it!

I love the summer! So many flowers and so much greenery everywhere!

Their reception was at the Carmelle Reception Center in Bountiful, Utah. It has a lot of big windows that let in some great natural light.

So Juliann and I were chatting in the car as we were driving around and we began to talk about motherhood and how although it's one of life's greatest gifts, somedays it can take a lot out of you. As mothers, I know we end up putting ourselves last most of the time. But lets you and I make a goal this year to try to take a little time out for ourselves and do something that will make you feel good about yourself. Schedule a day to pamper yourself. Get a mani-pedi, get your hair and makeup done, by a new smokin' outfit and get some pictures taken. Moms are always the ones behind the camera taking pictures of everyone else. So, turn that around for atleast one day and schedule a shoot just for you! You deserve it! And when you are recharged and feeling good about yourself, then you have more to give to the ones you love!

Let's be honest ladies. We all want to look beautiful on our wedding day. And not just kinda pretty, but HOT HOT HOT-make-every-guys-jaw-drop-and-make-my-groom-super-super-proud-to-be-marrying-me beautiful! Am I right or am I right?
Well, I have to say that I've photographed a few sessions that could have been amazing but let's just say the hair and makeup didn't live up to their full potential. What a shame!
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have your hair and makeup done right and how great it will make you feel. You'll be so much more confident throughout your shoot and it will always show through in your pictures.
I know it can be hard to trust someone else with something as important as your hair and makeup, and sadly I've seen some people trusted with this task that should not have been (yikes!) but have no fear! I have found a place that has not let me down so far.

How cool is that?! It cuts the time of your session in half so you can be sure they won't be the reason you're late to your photo shoot! And their service price includes travel if the location is between Provo and Salt Lake County and East of Bangerter Highway.
They really, truly do amazing cutting-edge work. I especially love their eyelash extensions. Ah, if only someone could invent permanent eyelash extensions. I would pay upwards of my life savings for them.
And last but not least, mention Camilla Photography and they'll give you a complimentary in salon Kerastase treatment. Sweet!

I remember when I was 8 years old and if I were to brush my teeth, put on my pajamas and be all ready for bed, then my parents would let me stay up to watch the brand new episodes of Full House which aired at 8 pm. I loved staying up to find out what shenanigans DJ, Steph and Michelle were going to get into.
Ah, if only I could get that bedtime back. I say this only because it seems like with my two kiddos, husband, house, errands, friends, and shooting, editing seems to get pushed back to the wee hours or the morning. So hopefully you'll excuse me if I'm a little behind on my posts. But stay tuned because there are more rockin' images from Tim and Lucia's wedding coming your way very shortly!

Our 2nd little bundle arrived last week on her big sister's birthday. She weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and was 20 inches long.

We haven't had a chance to do a real photo shoot yet. Mom has been slacking! We tried once but she was too fussy and wouldn't sleep for me. Hopefully we get some time to try again before she's too much bigger!

As of today I still look like this. Can you believe it? I thought I would have had this baby weeks ago! Which by the way is why you haven't seen many posts here lately. I stopped booking because I thought that our little bundle would be here by now.
If she doesn't come in the next couple of days the Dr. will induce me. Thank goodness!! Stay tuned to see the newest pictures of our little sweetie!

We never did make it to the location we were planning on going to, but I'm actually glad we didn't. We ended up getting some really amazing pictures at the random little spots that we stopped at. Really though, it would be easy to get great pictures or Ryan and Erin anywhere. Their connection is easy to see. They are going to make a great husband and wife! I'm so sorry I won't be around to shoot the wedding but I know it's going to be an awesome day for you guys! Congratulations!

Sunday Drive

We took a nice Sunday drive the other day and I just happened to have my camera with me.

I'm so grateful for Sunday's. They're days that I can spend resting and enjoying lots of time with my wonderful family. Best day of the week by far.

I handed my camera off to Mike and he took this next one. Way to go babe!
